Who is  Australian Medical Aid Foundation (AMAF)?

Australian Medical Aid Foundation  (AMAF) was founded in 2000 and works in both Australia and Sri Lanka to create better health for people in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

We are a medical-focused, charity in Australia. AMAF delivers emergency and long-term medical programs to support people in the North and East of Sri Lanka. We work together to share expertise, coordinate activities and pool resources, which enables us to extend our reach and impact for people in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

AMAF is a registered charity (ABN: 91 130 857 715). We are a member of Australian Council for International Development (ACFID). AMAF has DGR status with Australian Tax Office.

AMAF have any political or religious affiliations?

AMAF is a helath-focused, independent and charity organisation. We have no membership or affiliation to any political party or religion.

Where does AMAF operates?

AMAF operates from Sydney and Melbourne. But AMAF has members and volunteers all over Australia.

Does Australian Medical Aid Foundation subscribe to a Code of Conduct?

AMAF is a signatory to the Code of Conduct and the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Code of Conduct for Non Government Development Organisations (NGDOs). This Code defines standards of governance, management, financial control and reporting with which NGDOs should comply, and identifies mechanisms to ensure accountability in NGDOs’ use of public monies.

How are programs funded?

Our programs are funded by income received from donors, sponsorships and through fund raising events

Where do the funds go?

From every $1 Australian Medical Aid Foundation raises, we invest 91 cents to benefit for people in the North and East of Sri Lanka. AMAF helps to buy medical equipment, provide medical services and lesser extent in medical infrastructure.

How does AMAF set the salaries of its Executive team?

All members of AMAF are volunteers, not a paid employee. Therefore we managed to reduce our overheads under 10%. All our members and volunteers do not charge their cost in traveling or communication or for their time.

How does AMAF handle fraud and corruption?

Australian Medical Aid Foundation has a zero tolerance approach to fraud and corruption, to ensure that we can continue our important work to improve the lives of vulnerable children and their families.  To safeguard against fraud and corruption we apply strict financial controls in all our dealings with partner organisations.

How do I access my tax invoice?

Your tax receipt is sent to you within a month of receiving your donation. If you have misplaced a previous tax receipt or not receiving your invoice, you can contact us on 1300 990 828 and we will happily send you a copy. Please keep us updated if you change your email address so that we can ensure prompt receipt of your tax invoice.

I have tried to donate online, but an error message keeps appearing, what do I do?

How can you be sure that funds raised in Australia reach children in need overseas?

All projects in Sri Lanka supported by Australian funds are implemented through our partner NGOs and rigorously monitored by our staff here in Australia.

We have strict processes for selecting local partners to ensure that they have the skills to deliver the project and are not aligned with violent groups. We also have strict internal controls on how our money is managed in-country – to ensure we can be completely accountable to our donors.
